 Balancing Safety and Freedom

Benjamin spoke about trading liberty for security. That is what this wire tap non-sense is about. And, there were laws in place and rules and procedures set down to get a wire tap. The problem with the litigation pending against the tel-coms is because of unwarranted wire taps.
Simply put, the law was violated. I want to know where the order to proceed with the unwarranted surveillannce originated.

FCC should investigate Sixty Minutes balackout in Alabama

Alabama DEmocrats say that the FCC should launch an inquiry into the CBS blackout of the Sixty Minutes segment on the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. They are also asking the Department of Justice (not a chance) and the House Judiciary Committee to appoint a special prosecutor to look into claims of a politically
motivated persecution of Siegelman that was led by Karl Rove...

Funding for The War in Iraq

Senate Republicans now are agreeing to talk about funding the war in Iraq saying that the debate will allow them to discuss what they sau
is extrodinary success and political reconciliation. Ok, has there been progress? Sure. Nobody can deny that.
However, don't forget that a major player and his powerful militia have stood down now for over six months - I am speaking of Muquata
al-Sadr.
However, you will never get a bill passed with a timed withdrawl and to waste time again on trying to do so is ignorant.

Sixty Minutes Segment on Don Siegelman

This is available at www.democraticunderground.com. I can see why the
Republican station decided to have a "problem" with the broadcast and
why the White House preesured CBS not to air the story.

Bush still demanding immunity for Tel-Coms

However, he recently stated that what we asked the Tel-Coms to do was legal. Really? So, why do they need immunity from lawsuits? The President continues to use the politics of fear stating that America
is at risk. The Democrats deny this and state that surveillance continues - This might be something about obeying the law that GW fails to comprehend.
If the wire-taps in question were done with warrants approved by the
FISA court this matter would not be an issue. The law was broken and
GW wants his involvement to go away to cover his ass........
